Founded in 1912 by Takeshi Yamashita in Japan. Back then, the company was actually called Takachiho Seisakusho. It was renamed a couple times after that until 2003, when it was named Olympus Corporation. They started making microscopes in the early days. Now it makes everything that uses a lense such as binoculars and digital cameras.
Olympus cameras are of high quality and affordable prices. They sell very well due to the sleek designs and ease of use.
The Nikon Coolpix s51 is a great camera it comes to popularity in the market. Equipped with all the necessary enhancements that cater to both aesthetic and functional purposes, this camera is truly something every person must get a hold on.
The Coolpix S51 is outfitted with the NIKKOR Glass Lens capable of 3x Optical Zoom. Such enhancement allows user to take high quality images that are not compromised by distant image capture. No matter what your proximity is from your subject, you can easily use this zoom function in order to come up with crisp images that are free from image distortion. This zoom function is quite practical especially for high-action image capture that does not allow close range between the subject and the photographer. Image quality is never sacrificed even during great shooting distance.
High-Resolution LCD
This camera is also enhanced with a 3.0-inch High Resolution LCD which is capable of 160-degree wide-angle view. Bright and crystal clear, the screen is well suited for viewing all sorts of multimedia outputs. That said picture quality is never compromised even during times when the light source proves to be inadequate hence you can enjoy your image and video outputs regardless of light setting.
8.1 Mega-Pixels
This camera is also outfitted with 8.1 megapixels which ensures quality picture print out. While some cameras that show good images on screen, they fail when it comes to print outputs. This Nikon model does not mislead the user in terms of its image output. From screen viewing to print viewing, you are sure to get the same superb image result. Therefore there is no need to fret that your captured images might prove mediocre on paper.
Optical VR Image Stabilization
The Optical VR Image Stabilization minimizes camera shake. Camera shake is usually one of the most common reasons for blurry or out of focus images. With this Nikon model’s shake stabilization, you are sure not to fall victim to unsatisfactory images mainly due to an unstable camera.
Pictmotion
Pictmotion enhancement is yet another major feature of Nikon Coolpix s51. It allows the user to use available images and music files to create or edit on the spot presentations or mini movies. So next time you are caught in an impromptu office project presentation, or you have to come up with a mini movie reel for a friend’s special day, you can easily rely on this camera. The best part of this is that you do not need the use of other elaborate equipment or technology to carry out your project.
One Touch Portrait Button
One Touch Portrait Button is another feature of this camera which enables perfect images. It automatically fixes red eye and caters to face priority. Normally, red eye and out of focus pictures are people’s major worry when it comes to capturing faces and profiles. Through the aforementioned enhancements, even non-professional photographers are saved from the curse of red eye and dismally focused pictures. One can rely on these automatic camera features so as to avoid the risk of unflattering images and come up with images that are sure to make all photo subjects happy.

Olympus Stylus 850 SW – A Treat to All Camera Enthusiasts
Olympus Stylus 850 SW – Black
Olympus gave a treat to their camera lovers with its new Olympus Stylus 850 SW. It retains its forerunner’s capability to withstand dust, freezing and water. Although it may not be crush-resistant like the old 1030sw, it will work with efficiency in case the camera drops on a hard surface.
The compact Stylus 850 features an 8 mega-pixel CCD image sensor and Olympus’s internal 3x optical zoom lens. Its 2.5 inches LCD screen has 230,000 pixels. This compact camera has the usual features such as face detection, auto focus and digital image stabilization.
Memory and battery
The Olympus 850SW comes with a built in memory of 14.8 MB which you can expand with an xD card and is powered by its rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. The micro SD and xD card converter that comes along makes it easier to transfer images to mobile phones with cameras. You will now be able to take your photos anywhere conveniently. Though there are some issues regarding the battery. The power indicator light is limited to two colors which are green (for battery full) and red (you need to recharge immediately). You don’t know how much battery you’ve got left.
Shock resistant
What makes the 850 SW stand out among its kind is its ability to withstand shock. Olympus employed its shock absorbing innovations that prevents damage to the camera lens and circuitry even if it falls from a height up to 5 feet. It is perfect for you if you have children in the family or if you’re an active person.
Waterproof
Another feat offered is the waterproof design for this Olympus Stylus. The coating in its lens is capable of repelling water and preventing water droplets from forming. This way, you get to take clear shots regardless of how wet the environment is. Amazingly, the camera is waterproof up to 3 meters under water with a combination of the Olympus PT-041 underwater in case you can go 40 meters deeper. Thanks to its aluminum exteriors partnered by rubber gaskets that seal the elements out. You can take quality photographs underwater with its underwater scene mode settings. That is just perfect for snorkeling or a fun sunny day in the pool.
The underwater mode indeed works. But do not expect to get high quality photos because Olympus Stylus 850SW is not created to compete with higher end underwater cameras. The underwater mode simply adds up for the fun. Furthermore, there are 24 other shooting modes offered by the Stylus 850 SW that you can use in low-light or fast motion shooting situations.
Weather-proof
The camera’s body is weather resistant, which means you take it with you almost anywhere. When you are in a dusty place with a windy weather, just rinse your camera and you are good to shoot again. It can perform even at temperatures below 0, -10 degrees Celsius to be precise. Other compact cameras at its category freeze easily. So if you conquered a mountain, your Stylus 850 will be able to capture the image of your triumph for you.
Auto and ISO
For convenience, you can capture images using the Auto mode. Under this mode, there is a good feature, Programmed Auto, which allows you to tweak the ISO from 64 to 1600. This feature is rarely found on cameras of the same kind and it is a good thing that Olympus took this into consideration. Though, the higher ISO ratings are not satisfying. Images become noisy starting at ISO 800. It is best to stick with the standard 64-400 ISO ratings.
Screen
The camera has a bright LCD but looking at it from certain angles or under direct sunlight makes it difficult to see the images. The brightness of the screen can be adjusted though, so looking at the LCD under different situations won’t be much of a problem. One important thing to note is that the LCD screen makes the captured photos punchier than the actual image, especially when you use the manual settings for exposure and white balance. The image that you get will either be too sharp or too flat when you look at it from a computer screen. There is no problem using the auto mode though.
Shadow adjuster
The in-camera shadow adjustment feature is nice because it increases the exposure of areas which are covered with shadows, and retains the highlights. The feature is akin to the high dynamic range (HDR) that is becoming popular in the digital imaging world. Though, shadow adjustment is not available in other shooting modes such as the underwater mode and night mode. To capture great images while you are submerged, you have to make sure that there is enough sunlight.
Macro mode
The macro mode is okay but getting too close to the subject messes up the camera’s focus capabilities. You have to shoot from the appropriate distance for the focus to smoothly work, otherwise overshooting will result. Taking the image from the right distance will bring you satisfactory results though.
Quick-fix
Another useful addition to this camera is its quick-fix option. You can edit your photos on the camera. Basic editing features include, frames, resizing, saturation adjustments and text options. By using the Perfect Fix mode, you can apply multiple editing features at once.
Colors
The Stylus 850 SW comes in different colors to match your taste and these colors are: black, silver, pink, yellow and blue.
Video
Worth it or not?
This digital camera is perfect for adventure loving people. You can take it almost anywhere without limiting your fun. Despite its larger built compared to its siblings, the Stylus 850 is lighter making it easier to carry. The price is just right for its very functional features. Although, do not expect high quality photographs from a midrange compact camera. After all, the it has only 8 megapixels with a limited 3x optical zoom. But if being practical and fun is your priority, the Olympus Stylus 850 SW is just right for you.

With the dawn of Digital SLR cameras the competition has been tight for pocket cameras but Olympus Stylus 1010 has bridged that gap quite remarkably with the brand new Olympus Stylus 1010.
This digital camera has taken the concept of pocket digital photography to new heights. It’s a quick and easy device to use and that still delivers amazing photographs with vivid and sharp detail despite its incredibly compact size. To get a clearer view of what one gets when they purchase this digital camera, here is an in-depth review of the Olympus Stylus 1010.
The Best Product Details of the OlympusStylus 1010
Size
The Olympus Stylus 1010 is a compact digital camera that is only 1 inch thick, 3.9 inches long and 2.2 inches tall. Although it is remarkably small, basically being the ideal size for a pocket camera, the Olympus Stylus 1010 is able to reach a maximum 7x optical zoom, which is pretty much an equivalent of a 37mm standard zooming to 260mm distances on a 35mm camera. Even at the maximum distance the Olympus Stylus 1010 is able to give clear, distinct photographs.
Image Stabilizer
The Olympus 1010 also has two unique features that clear out the blurriness from an image. It has both a mechanical sensor shift and digital image stabilization that make up the camera’s dual image stabilization feature. By combining the camera’s mechanical and digital capabilities to clear out blurriness, the Olympus Stylus 1010 can take clear, blurry-free shots even if the photographer or the subject is moving.
Shadow Adjustment Technology
The third important feature of the Stylus 1010 is the Shadow Adjustment Technology it carries. The human eye is able to distinguish the lighting contrast between lighted areas and shadow areas but cameras, especially digital cameras, usually lack the competence to make the difference. The Olympus Stylus 1010, with its Shadow Adjustment Technology, makes sure you get the same attention to detail in the image exactly the same as how the human eye does. This makes for a great feature to have when you know that lights and shadows may be a significant factor where you plan to take photographs.
10.1 MP
All of the aforementioned features of the Olympus Stylus 1010 are well complimented by the fact that the camera is able to dish out photographs with a total of 10.1 megapixel image quality. The pixel count is what makes the images clear despite going up to the highest digital zoom possible or when the subject is moving fast. Most cameras won’t be able to compensate and you will normally find a lot of pictures with low detail, making the image unrecognizable at times. The high pixel count of the Olympus Stylus 1010 ensures that in both cases you will be getting sharp images and with the Shadow Adjustment Technology you are getting great photos no matter the lighting conditions.
Perfect Shot Preview
To compliment the Olympus Stylus 1010 and its abilities to take the sharpest pictures available is the camera’s Perfect Shot Preview feature. This feature allows a photographer to view a preview of the image they intend to take, viewed on the high-resolution LCD screen. This feature is also the best option for those who wish to study advance photography techniques like white balancing and color adjustments that can alter a photograph. By allowing someone to preview the image before taking the shot can be crucial in making sure they are getting the picture they wish to take without error or the need to take the shot again.
Colors
The model comes in four nice colors. You can get the Olympus Stylus 1010 purple, blue, silver and black.
Other Great Features
The Olympus Stylus 1010 also has a lot of other small features. It has a face detection feature that allows the camera to automatically focus on the face of the subject and it can do this live even while the subject is constantly moving. It also has the exclusive TruePic III image processor that is mostly used for specific Digital SLR cameras. With this image processor the Olympus Stylus 1010 is able to develop clear, sharp digital images. This is usually a concern with photographers knowing that a digital image may have a lower image quality when compared to a regular film camera. This is due to the light adjustments and the conversion done to digital images to fit different formats. Lastly the Olympus Stylus 1010 also has a unique underwater photography mode. When the Olympus Stylus 1010 is encased in its water housing it can switch to this mode and will be able to deliver crystal clear images even if you are underwater all the way down to scuba levels of 40 meters or 130 feet.
Some things to consider before purchasing
The Olympus Stylus 1010 can now support SD micro cards with an adapter. This feature supports up to a total of 16GB, easily making it one of the best cameras to use if you plan to take a lot of pictures and videos at one time. It also has panoramic picture taking features that allow it to stitch together a series of photographs. The movie feature and live photo editing feature used to have lagging problems and it used to have a very short clip length limitations but a released firmware has addressed this and now videos can be taken up to the full capacity of a memory card in use. There have been some complaints about the flash being too bright and can wash out photo subjects but this can be remedied with minor adjustments on the white balance meter and through minor color adjustments. Many have exclaimed that the clear images are still in vivid detail even when enlarged.
Video Review
Price
The Olympus Stylus 1010 is currently available at varying prices from $95 to $150, depending on what color and accessories that comes with the package. The general package comes with rechargeable lithium ion battery, the Olympus Stylus 1010 charger, and the installer for the Olympus Maser 2 computer software. The package weighs a total of only two pounds. It is easily one of the best and affordable pocket digital cameras you will ever find in the market. The Olympus Stylus 1010 might not be a Digital SLR camera but it does a job quite comparable to what you would expect from an SLR.

While Nikon continues to be known for its hard-hitting DSLR cameras, its Coolpix line of point-and-shoots contains some workhorses, such as the Nikon Coolpix L18.
This is a small and cute camera. It measures about 3.7 x 2.4 x 1.2 inches or 9.5 x 6.1 x 2.9 centimetres. It’s also light-weight at only 125 grams or 4.4 ounces. In other words, it will fit nicely in the palm of your hand but only as heavy as a medium bag of chips. You are able to add an extra SD card to its 21 MB internal memory.
Ease of Use
This camera has been said by many customers to be the easiest to learn how to use. Litterally a little child could use it. It’s idiot proof and straight-forward to learn.
Optical Zoom Lens
The Nikon Coolpix L18 boasts the Nikkor 3x optical zoom lens. It does its best from close range. However, it will get the job done nicely with a 35-105mm capability. The L18′s Red-Eye Fix, exclusive D-Lighting and face detection features complement the zoom nicely. The face selector is especially unique as it automatically zooms on and highlights portions of an image that contains a face.
Lighting
The D-Lighting feature automatically adds light to shots that otherwise would be scrapped because they are too dark. This is done by digitally enhancing dark areas. For outdoor sporting events, concerts and parties, these features produce solid shots, which can also be attributed to up-to ISO 1600 capability and automatic anti-shake.
Here is a video to understand more about ISO:
Anti-shake mode and Best Shot Selector
When in Anti-Shake mode, the camera nicely adjusts to a higher shutter speed when it detects movement. This feature works fairly well, and allows this Coolpix to perform like a camera found in higher price ranges. Unlike some point-and-shoot cameras, this Nikon Coolpix digital camera has a nifty feature called the Best Shot Selector, useful especially when shooting moving subjects.
EXPEED Image processor
With what Nikon calls the EXPEED image processor, this Nikon Coolpix almost lives up to the claim that it brings out vivid colors in every picture. In perfect light, this feature alone, makes the the Coolpix L18 perform more like a DSLR than a point-and-shoot. This coupled with its 8 mega-pixels, can produce nice prints.
Movies
The High Quality TV Movies with Sound features are simple to use and allows you to record give or take 30 minutes of footage and of course as much as you want on your SD cards depending on how big they are. Video quality is better than average and is complemented nicely by the anti-shake feature, which keeps jerky footage out the equation. Videos can be shot in VGA 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 resolution.
Screen
Images and videos are displayed on the sizable three-inch LCD. The screen is fitted with a ant-reflection coating, which helps eliminate glare. There is no viewfinder, so the anti-reflection coating is especially useful when shooting outdoors.
Buttons
The Coolpix L18′s Auto, Easy Auto, Movie and Scene modes are easy to use making shooting in a variety conditions rewarding, especially for beginners. Although the mode buttons are placed on the top of the camera instead of the back, they are comfortably navigated as Nikon reserved the back of the camera for the large screen.
Speed
It may not look like a fast camera, with it’s quaint Navy blue or red color options, however, the Nikon Coolpix L18 can perform at an impressive frame rate of 1.5 seconds without flash. When in Continuous mode, the L18 turns in a rate of 1.3 seconds. When shooting sporting events, the Multi-Shot 16 feature captures 16 small images in a single frame, allowing this little unit to challenge any sport/action mode found on some DSLRs.
Some Cons to Consider
Battery Life
Disadvantages of owning the Nikon Coolpix camera are few. However, for the purpose of an honest Nikon Coolpix L18 review, there things about this camera that may turn some users off. First, the Coolpix L18 uses AA batteries, which means it will move through a standard package quickly. According to the company, two AA alkaline batteries are good for about 180 shots. In reality, however, a pair of solid batteries will give you about 125 to 150 pictures. The video and flash will eat away at the total. Using the flash often and shooting significant amounts of video could limit the camera to 75 or 100 photos per a pair of batteries. However, the Nikon Coolpix L18 is far from the only camera of its kind to run on AA batteries. All that do have similar issues. This problem can be solved by using reputable alkaline or rechargeable batteries. On the other hand, it may even be a benefit. If you run out of batteries in an emergency, it’s easier to get another set of of AA batteries than to get another camera battery or wait for it to charge again.
This model has been replaced by a newer version, the Nikon Coolpix L19. You may want to compare the two before making a decision.
Durability
Secondly, it’s important to keep this camera safe. Far from crush-proof or waterproof, the L18 will only withstand with a inexpensive point-and-click can handle when dropped or forcefully struck. Make sure you get a good case for this one because one accident could ruin it for everyone.
Image quality
As for image quality, for an entry level camera, this Coolpix gets the job done. While 8 mega-pixels don’t allow the camera to shine when printing, the L18 does have the tendency of producing muted colors. This can be corrected by adjusting settings and, therefore, should not be deterring. Most cameras at this price point have similar flaws.
All things taken into account
Coolpix L18′s lack of bells and whistles, found on similar camera by Kodak, Casio or Panasonic could pose a problem for some users. However, this lack of features is actually Nikon’s concentration on simplicity and value. Taking the Nikon Coolpix L18 price into account, this camera is made for those who want an easy go of it and still take quality photos. From that standpoint, the Nikon Coolpix L18 delivers.

Some of them offer extraordinary zooming capabilities. For example, with the PowerShot SX40 HS, the company has succeeded in delivering an ultra-zoom option, superior to all others. Another example is the PowerShot G 12, which is a high end point and shoot with image sensors that are larger than other point and shoot options. Interestingly, the PowerShot G12 is also compact, considering the features that are weaved into this product. Some Canon cameras have an USP of shooting good quality images in low light. For example, Canon Digital IXUS 310HS, which has a wide lens with a focal length equivalent to 24-105mm and fast and stable targeting capability. This type of lens allows you to take sharp images in low light.
All Canon digital point and shoot camera products are categorized and sold as three Canon sub-brands, namely Canon PowerShot, Canon PowerShot G, and Canon Digital IXUS. While the Canon PowerShot gives you complete control over the internal software of the camera, enabling you to add features; the G series gives more on the specification front such as a flip out and twist LCD, RAW image format capability, remote capture, and wider aperture. The Digital IXUS range gives you with ultra-compact design.
Apart from the range and the features, Canon presents to you a world class, state-of-the-art lens technology. For instance, residual chromatic aberration or secondary chromatic aberration, which is a challenge to overcome while creating photographic lenses, is dealt by the artificial crystal fluorite lens element, which features very low optical depression index. Similarly, an aspherical lens may be a common lens type in modern cameras, which is used to help correct distorted image with wide angle lenses and controlling spherical aberration.
Generally, all Canon digital point and shoot have excellent color performance with bright, vivid, and accurate pictures. A Canon will never let you down in terms of exposure. The preset white balances in manual custom variants of white balance (in some point and shoots) give you an opportunity to play with the mood and aura of the picture. Speaking of color, the camera itself comes in many fun colors to choose from. Black, red and silver are the most popular.
Canon is also well placed in terms of pricing. Needless to say, the Canon point and shoot is competitively priced while offering very good photo and video quality. Some may argue that a few Canon products cannot handle too much light situations, effectively. However, what do you expect from any tiny portable camera?
With all the benefits and features, Canon point and shoot cameras are definitely fun to use.

The In-Camera Red-Eye protection works well on this camera. I’ve had a camera in the past that always puts red-eyes on the subjects of my pictures. It’s such a hassle to edit these out. You won’t have that problem with this camera. No more extra time wasted with Photoshop.
The Face detection also works nicely. It’s able to identify up to 12 faces. The best thing is that there’s hardly any delay when doing this. No more pictures with the background looking great and the people looking blurry. That’s a thing of the past with this camera. The blink and smile mode are also very nice touches for those hyper active blinkers and the non-smiling sour faces.
The 3 inch touchscreen on this unit is a joy to use. The screen was bright, big and easy to read. When you go touchscreen it’s just so cool it’s hard to go back. The controls are very easy to figure out. You don’t even have to read the manual, although I recommend that you do to get the best out of the camera. The really great thing about the screen is that it’s actually quite resistant to fingerprints. In sunlight, the glare is minimal. There are also various useful tools that let you edit your pics right on the camera. You can even draw on your pics. I especially enjoy being able to crop the picture on the camera. If you buy and sell occasionally on ebay or other online stores, you need a good camera to take the pictures. You want your sale item to be clear and your unnecessary background cropped.
The scene auto selector works well. Almost any environment will work.I still recommend you use select the scene yourself, but the computer will select the proper settings for you. For those of us who aren’t technically inclined, this is an indispensable feature.
Nikon Coolpix cameras are generally quite nice. The pictures are clear and bright, and the colors are very vibrant. It’s so light and handy to carry around even for a child. Indoor and outdoor pictures work great either way. The optics in this camera seems to be top notch.
Nikon Coolpix s230 reviews have indicated that the camera feels very light weight and not heavy and sturdy like more expensive DSLRs, but it’s not a DSLR and made for portability so that’s really not a big thing.
Conclusion
The Nikon Coolpix S230 price is a steal for this quality.

The zoom option definitely stands out with this camera. You’re getting more than three to four times as much zoom as the regular point and shoot cameras with only 5x zoom. Whether you’re standing on a busy and crowded street or high up on the bleachers at a ball game, you can capture almost anything.
Optical VR image stabilization
Sometimes it’s hard focus when the picture you’re trying to capture is not a still moment. This is particularly annoying when you’re in an active environment, or your subjects are moving. Little movements will not damage your photos. This alone makes photography more fun and real.
Record longer movie clips
You can instantly record mini-movies as long as your memory allows. If you run out of space, you have the option of buying extra SD cards. Or better yet, use an SD car for the movie just like a DVD. The great thing is, after you transfer the movie onto your computer or burn it on a DVD, you can reuse the SD card.
2.7-inch high-resolution LCD display
The display is large and easy to see with the Nikon Coolpix P80 camera. Even in those dark areas, that often blinds other cameras, you can still see your subjects. The clear and crisp screen allows you to review your pictures and movies on the spot just like an HD TV.
Auto-correction of most popular photo quirks
The most annoying thing about taking pictures is the minor errors due to lighting. The Nikon Coolpix 80 has a built-in Red-Eye Fix, which takes care of those evil eyes. You can focus up to 12 faces in a group with Face Priority, which is more than enough to get a great picture as a whole.
Poor and well-lit compatible
This camera is best used in well-lit areas like all cameras. In very dark places, the picture quality may be reduced. However, that’s what the flash is for. Just remember to turn on the flash in dimmer lighting because it does not turn on by itself.
Continuous scene mode
Want to be like a professional photographer? You can take up 13 frames per second with up to 30 shots. Whether you’re taking photos of a beautiful model or an active event, you’ll catch every moment.
D-SLR-type mode for customization
If you’re an experienced photographer or someone who loves to experiment, you can adjust the settings to your liking. This gives you full control over your work and gives you the chance to master usage unlike anyone else.
Conclusion
Customers have loved this product and many have given it 5 stars in Nikon Coolpix P80 reviews. With an average 4-star rating, the Nikon Coolpix P80 will most likely turn out to be a favorite.
